What are known risk factors for theee developent of venous stasis ulcers ?
The primary underlying mechanism for venous ulcer formation isnvenous reflux (incompetence) or obstruction.
Bonkemeyer Milan and colleagues have sumarized the known risk factors for the developent of veenous stasis ulcers:
age 55 years or older
family history of chronic venous insufficiency
higher body mass index
history of pulmonary embolism
superficial/deep venous thrombosis of the lower extremity
skeletal or joint disease
higher number of pregnancies
parental history of ankle ulcers
physical inactivity
history of ulcers
severe lipodermatosclerosis
venous reflux in deep veins
