The Vein Treatment Center is a National Center of Excellence for Vein Disorders.

Located in Williamsville, just outside Buffalo, NY, the Vein Treatment Center specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of vein disorders such as varicose veins, spider veins and venous reflux disease.

  • A role for specific genetic risk factors for varicose veins and spider veins is not known. However, heredity does play a role in the development or susceptibility for development of valvular failure at the saphenofemoral junction - also called venous reflux.
  • Of note, when an individual has venous reflux disease, the likelihood of his/her identical twin to have venous reflux disease exceeds 75%.
  • The likelihood of a male to have a relative with a varicose vein is approximately 20%. The likelihood for a female patient to have a relative with vericose veins is 45%.
