Ematrix Treatment for Acne Scars, Wrinkles, and Stretch Marks

Ematrix can help treat superficial and deep skin problems including fine lines, loss of collagen, wrinkles, skin tone, acne scars, and stretch marks. The secret behind Ematrix is the FDA-cleared technology known as sublative rejuvenation; which employs bipolar fractional radiofrequency energy to stimulate fibroblast production of collagen.

Ematrix is a useful method to help improve acne scars on the face and body. Using sublative energy to treat acne scars, stretch marks, and wrinkles. Santa Monica and Los Angeles

Q: What is Ematrix?

A: Ematrix is a ‘fractional’ skin treatment that uses RF energy instead of laser energy to help rejuvenate the skin. Unlike ablative fractional lasers, Ematrix is considered a ‘sublative’ treatment in that it focuses on the deeper skin rather than the skin surface. In doing so, sublative energy targets collagen production to help improve fine lines, wrinkles, stretch marks, and acne scars. At Kare Plastic Surgery, Ematrix is offered as a medical and cosmetic treatment for the skin.

Q: How is Ematrix different than Fraxel or CO2 laser?

A: Ematrix uses fractional bipolar RF rather than single-wavelength light.  The non-laser approach is excellent for patients who desire less downtime or who have undergone unsuccessful laser treatments. Most importantly, unlike laser resurfacing, Ematrix is suitable for all skin colors and skin types.

Q: How long does Ematrix take to perform?

A: Ematrix is a quick, outpatient procedure.  Most patients tolerate Ematrix after about 10 to 20 minutes of topical lidocaine cream.  Depending on whether the Ematrix is used for deep acne scars or superficial fine wrinkles, the strength of the Ematrix treatment varies.

Q: What are the risks of Ematrix?

A: Most patients notice immediate redness on the skin and some mild localized swelling. Ematrix has a much quicker turnaround time than laser resurfacing and is thus better tolerated than lasers. Ematrix is also suitable for all skin types so there is a finite decrease in pigmentation risk when compared to lasers.

Q: How many Ematrix treatments will I need?

A: There are many different reasons to undergo Ematrix treatment, ranging from superficial fine wrinkles, loss of collagen, stretch marks, and acne scars. Most patients will opt for a series of three. We advise patients to also use topical creams and chemical peels to further enhance results. Replenish CX retinoid cream, Melarase creams for skin lightening, and Elevase Moisture Booster are excellent complementary products for Ematrix.

Q: How painful is Ematrix?

A: Ematrix is well tolerated as an outpatient procedure with application of topoical lidocaine cream. If deeper treatments are needed, Ematrix can be performed with Zimmer Cryospray, injection of local anesthetic, or under anesthesia with an anesthesiologist.

Q: Do I need to wear sunscreen after the Ematrix procedure?

A: Sunscreen with SPF 30 is always an excellent step in your daily skincare routine. Ematrix may make the skin more sun sensitive, so it is important to use sunscreen after Ematrix or any other skin treatment. Many of our patients use Spectrase SPF 30 or Melarase AM with SPF 30 after treatment.

Q: Is Ematrix powerful enough for tough acne scars?

A: Ematrix is a very effective tool to treat atrophic acne scars on the face and body. Deep acne scars, valley scars, box car scars, and rolling acne scars respond well to a series of Ematrix treatments. Dr. Karamanoukian can modulate the strength of the Ematrix treatment to help treat superficial and deep atrophic scars. Our office also offers TCA Cross, subcision, chemical peels, dermabrasion, acne surgery, and fractional laser for acne scars.

Q: Does Ematrix work well for acne scars on the face?

A: The advent of Ematrix marked a turning point for the treatment of acne scars without significant downtime.  Previously, treatments such as dermabrasion, deep chemical peels, and fully-ablative CO2 helped treat acne scars, but with long periods of downtime. For those patients who want effective acne scar therapy without significant or prolonged downtime, Ematrix continues to be an excellent choice.
