Deep vein thrombosis in plastic surgery and reconstructive surgery patients.

A study was done to determine those at risk for developing deep vein thrombosis in plastic and reconstructive surgery.

The study was published by Yago H and colleagies from the  Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Tokyo Women's Medical University, Tokyo, Japan and the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Tokyo Women's Medical University, Tokyo, Japan.

The authors screened for deep vein thrombosis using Doppler ultrasound and this was repeated between 2 and 7 days postoperatively.

The authors found that mean age, body mass index and Caprini score and duration of surgery were significanty hiogher in patients who develped DVT.

Multivsriate regression analysis identified thst Caprini scores of 7-8 and > 8 were indipendenty associated with development of DVT.
