I-VASC is doing clinical trials with novel technology that uses a balloon catheter system to drain segment of a saphenous vein or a varicose vein following which sclerosant solution is delivered to that isolated segment. The technology falls in the class of non thermal techniques that ablate veins. An example of a non thermal technique that it may compete with is VenaSeal. Anotgher would be the ClariVein System.
The caltheter that I-VASC is using in the trials is called Velex.
Stay tuned. This technology may be a game changer for the treatment of venous insufficiency.
